ERCAAN Lagos Reaches Understanding with Ministry of Housing on Enforcement Activities

The Lagos State Chapter of the Estate, Rent and Commission Agents Association of Nigeria (ERCAAN) has reached a mutual understanding with the Lagos State Ministry of Housing regarding recent enforcement activities and raids targeting unregistered real estate practitioners.
The ERCAAN delegation was led by the National President, Hon. Godwin Alenkhe, alongside the Lagos State Chairman, Hon. Godwin Demechi. Also present were the BOT Chairman, Elder Sunny Yemi Adenowo, and other national and state executives.
During the meeting, Hon. Alenkhe acknowledged the efforts of the regulatory authorities, particularly the role of Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA), in sanitising the sector. However, he drew attention to a recent enforcement case in the Owutu Agric area, noting that the affected member had been duly registered under the former LASRETRAD framework.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration, urging the Ministry to carry ERCAAN along in future enforcement exercises to enhance coordination and effectiveness. He also used the opportunity to formally introduce the newly elected state executives.
Representing the Permanent Secretary, Hon. Shadare Akanni Kayode James welcomed the delegation and encouraged all practitioners to regularise their registration with LASRERA and the Ministry of Housing.
The Director of Legal Services further advised ERCAAN members to strictly comply with government directives, particularly regarding approved agency fees and tenancy agreements.
In response, the BOT Chairman, Elder Sunny Yemi Adenowo, reaffirmed ERCAAN’s commitment to full compliance, especially with the provisions of the new tenancy bill once it is signed into law.
The meeting concluded on a cordial note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to professionalism, regulatory compliance, and the continued development of the real estate sector in Lagos State.
